Brian Setzer has always been a rebel.

When England was immersed in the punk rock sounds of the 80’s, Setzer and his American mates sold up their gear and bought a plane ticket. They howled onto the scene as the Stray Cats, bringing driving rockabilly licks, heart-thumping standup slap bass and a heavy snare drum back-beat. During the 90’s, Setzer rioted among the zoot suits, styling a 17-piece swing orchestra to back his blistering jump blues guitar. This assembly earned him his 8th Grammy nomination for best classical crossover album (Setzer has won three Grammy Awards).

With a reputation for resurrecting older eras of music, Setzer is a good match for the elixir that is the annual Byron Bay blues and roots music festival. With roots minted where blues meets hillbilly, swing meets boogie woogie and punk meets rock n’roll, the 23rd Annual Byron Bay Bluesfest will host Setzer’s new Rockabilly Riot tour.

The Rockabilly Riot line-up includes: two (yes, two!) slappin’ stand-up bassists; two drummers – including original Stray Cat Slim Jim Phantom – and a classic boogie-woogie piano.

Often polled as being among the world’s best, Brian Setzer joins an impressive list of guitar virtuosos that will perform at the 2012 Byron Bay Bluesfest; Joe Satriani, Steve Howe (Yes), Stephen Stills, John Fogerty, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Roddy Byers (The Specials), Dweezil Zappa and of course our very own Ian Moss.

The five day Byron Bay Bluesfest will be held over the Easter weekend from Thursday 5th April to Monday 9th April at the Tyagarah Tee Tree farm.
